After battling a knee injury that refused to heel and spending six months on crutches, our sweet and courageous cousin Angel Wilson was diagnosed with Spindle Cell Osteosarcoma and began her cancer journey at MD Anderson on July 18 of this year.
She and her husband, Mike, quickly made plans to move from West Monroe, Louisiana to Houston, Texas so that she could be near her oncologist and treatment team.
Last week, she completed Phase 1 of her treatment – 4 rounds of intense chemotherapy.
Phase 2 will include a surgery to remove the tumor from her distal femur, and reconstruction of her knee. Recovery and rehab will follow, including more post-op chemo.
Throughout this journey, our family has surrounded Angel, Mike, and their only daughter Anslee, with all the love, prayers, and support we could offer. That’s what families are for, but what’s been even more beautiful and amazing is the way friends and communities have rallied around The Wilsons and our family as a whole. Angel is a third-grade teacher, who won the Hixson Golden Apple Award earlier this year, and she is so adored by the community.
In her KNOE News interview, Brianna Stewart, the student who nominated Angel, said: “She’s really nice to me and every day if I’m not in her class I wish I was.”
Many businesses and groups have come together to host fundraisers, prayer meetings, and meal-trains. From the beginning, Angel declared “Faith over Fear” as her purpose statement and claimed Victory over her battle. North Louisiana’s Mr. P’s Tees designed a campaign shirt for Angel and people across several states participated in the fundraiser – spreading the message of “Faith over Fear” and Angel’s story where ever they went.
This, coupled with Angel’s joy of wearing faith apparel to chemo treatments, inspired me to reach out to Etsy makers in hopes of getting together some items for her to wear and share her testimony.
We set a goal to receive a shirt or card from every state and we’re almost there – plus we’ve gotten several things from other countries! My fiancé, Cole, and I delivered the first round of items to Angel a few days ago and shared a great visit with her and Mike at their cozy Houston apartment.

Cards, many from Angel’s students, and coloring sheets cover the walls. Yellow is Angel’s favorite color and the color for Sarcoma awareness. Yellow bouquets and balloons are scattered throughout the space, giving it such a cheerful vibe. The Faith is palpable. Her battle is won.
A message from The Wilsons:
“What has been profound to us all is that, one day we were perched high on a limb of success and just living our everyday comfortable and happy lives. In a moment that branch was broken. Please take time to let that soak in! Love, forgive, live, and make a difference for others each day! When our branch broke, we landed at the foot of a path god intended us to follow. We follow each day with faith and trust! God is building our testimony to help others. He has a branch specifically made for our family. It’s a different branch, made of a different and much stronger tree in a much different place. We will walk the path, find the tree, Climb until we can no longer Climb and shout the praises and grace of God to glorify him! This go fund me account is here for those who choose to help. What we need more than anything in this world are. Instant prayers for healing, strength, peace, joy, courage and unwavering faith! Take a min to reflect on what we are telling you in this message. Gods plan for you is already written. It is already decided. Don’t get too comfortable on your branch! Please share this message with as many people as possible. Not just Facebook! Talk to people and witness our story to those who need it! Love you all!”
Please continue to pray!
