After studying oncology last semester and processing my cousin’s cancer diagnosis, I became really interested in the ingredients of the products I was putting in and on my body. I stopped drinking, I started thinking more about the medications I was taking. And I became even more paranoid about sugar. It just really gave me pause and made me want to take better care of myself.

The scientist in me thrives on clinical research, and I was completely disgusted when I realized that even though we have the studies to prove that certain chemicals are linked to cancer and infertility, the FDA hasn’t updated U.S. regulatory guidelines for personal care products in over 80 years.

One of my goals for 2019 is to be my own best advocate and completely switch over to clean, cruelty-free products. I experimented with a few brands beginning in late 2018 before trying and committing to Beautycounter. A lot of my fellow bloggers use and believe in the products, so I knew they were good. But what I fell in love with most is the mission.

The chemists at Beautycounter created what they call The Never List – a list of more than 1,500 compounds that are known to be or are suspected to be harmful – that will never be used to formulate Beautycounter products. Gregg, the founder and CEO, has traveled to Washington to advocate for more stringent laws in the industry and works with non-profits like Environmental Working Group, Breast Cancer Prevention Partners, and Healthy Child Healthy World to create positive change.

Today on Instagram, I shared my quick and easy 5-minute face video and thought you guys might like it too!

Step 1: Prime with Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion

I use 2 pumps of this super lightweight lotion to prime and hydrate my skin. It hydrates up to 24-hours and actually adjusts hydration levels throughout the day for a smooth look and feel and radiant glow. The Adaptive Moisture Lotion is the only product of it’s kind, with Bio-Mimic Technology that harnesses the unique life-giving properties of plants to exactly match the structure of skin.

Step 2: Apply Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation

I squeeze a line of the foundation onto my blender sponge in a zig-zag pattern and apply in a blotting fashion from my jawline, up to my cheeks, down my nose and chin, then repeating on the other side and across my forehead. The Tint Skin is lightweight, while offering full-coverage. It includes sodium hyaluronate, a natural moisture magnet, to work with the Adaptive Moisture Lotion, in promoting smoother-looking skin.

Step 3: Set with Mattifying Powder

I’m not a huge fan of white setting powders because I feel like they always leave a white residue or give flash-back in photos. I seriously have like 5 different setting powders sitting my drawer from other brands that are all full because I hated them. But my friend Sarah recommended this one and I love it! No white left behind, no crazy glare in photos, and it keeps me matte all day. I apply it with the Powder Brush shown here.

Step 4: Contour + Highlight with the First Light Highlighter Palette

contour.jpegAt this point, I prep my eyelids with the Brightening Facial Oil, making sure to soak a little of the oil into my lashes. Then, I contour by applying Sunkissed with the Angled Blush Brush to my cheeks, point of my chin, and top of my forehead. Then I highlight by applying Halo with the Fan Powder Brush  on my cheek bones, point of my nose, above my lip, center of my chin and forehead, and lightly across my eyelids. The video is saved on my Instagram highlights if you want to watch for a better explanation!

Step 5: Line eyes + Apply Mascara with the Precision Liquid Eyeliner and Volumizing Mascara

mascara

I LOVE this liquid liner! My friend Kelly suggested that I try it and it’s seriously amazing. It dries right away like I said in my video…I’m pretty sure you could apply this liner, sneeze, and it wouldn’t smudge – it dries that quick! And, the applicator is super easy to use. I don’t have the most steady hand but my wing looks good with this one! My lashes are pretty long so I use the Volumizing Mascara instead of the lengthening one and I like that it’s a drier formulation. It contains natural fibers and comes with an hourglass shaped brush that separates, curls and plumps the lashes!

Step 6: Quick swipe of shadow with the Classic Velvet Palette

I know this is a little backwards, but I actually apply my eyeshadow after my liner and mascara because I only use it in my crease. I apply a little Ivory with the Crease Eye Brush for my everyday look. But if I’m going out and want something more dramatic, I use a variety of shades applied with the All-Over Eye Brush. I use the shade Sable, a matte brown, to fill in my brows and it’s great.

Step 7: Apply Sheer Lipstick + Lip Gloss

I prefer the sheer lipstick, in Lily,  over the Color Intense Lipstick for my everyday looks because it’s more soft and natural. Then, I refresh my lips throughout the day with the Lip Gloss in Bellini. Both products are super moisturizing and provide a nice shimmer without being sticky. They contain nature vanilla and jojoba so they smell and taste great!

Step 8: Set with Nourishing Rosewater Mist

After my face is on, I spritz a little rosewater to set it with a dewy finish. This is also a great product to throw in your bag and carry for anytime you need to refresh your makeup during the day.

Since switching to Beautycounter, my morning routine is so much easier! I use less products and the whole routine from start to finish takes no more than five minutes.

Bonus Tips:

brushes.jpeg

  1. Clean your brushes with the Charcoal Bar. I already had this bar because I LOVE washing my makeup off with it, but my friend Sarah suggested that I clean my brushes with it and it’s amazing! The charcoal literally pulls the makeup right out of your brushes and turns the orangey bristles back to white.
  2. Remove your eye makeup with the Cleansing Balm. I hate using soap on my eyes because duh it burns. And I’ve never liked the greasy feel of eye makeup remover wipes. In comes the cleansing balm from my friend Jenna! This multi-purpose balm is so gentle and perfect for removing waterproof eyes! You can even use it as a night cream.
  3. Use your Flat Complexion Brush to apply your Balancing Facial Mask and quit wasting product! I saw a beauty guru on YouTube use a brush to apply her mask and it’s so much easier to spread around in a thin layer than using your fingers! My mask goes such a longer way now and I love it.

Overall, I’ve been so impressed with Beautycounter’s mission, products, and customer support. Everyone is so friendly, knowledgable and dedicated to generating change for good! I love it and I’m so happy to be a part of this growing movement for health in our country. I’d love to answer your questions or send you samples so just shoot me an email.

p.s. the Flawless in Five collection is the quickest and most cost-effective way to do a Clean-Swap of your beauty bag!
